"High Pricing Error": How to fix Amazon price errors

January 5, 2023

Most Amazon sellers have to deal with these at some point: The dreaded "high pricing error."

What are they?

Amazon will deactivate your inventory if its algorithm decides you priced too high as an "error." Don't worry: You can price your books however you want, and these are "errors" can often (not always) be fixed.

Why do they happen?

Best theory is that Amazon created them to either save sellers from making pricing mistakes, or to prevent price gouging in other categories where that's a problem.

How do you fix them?

First thing you want to do is go to your "Manage Inventory" page and set a minimum and maximum price for the books Amazon is giving you trouble on.

Now make sure the book's price is between the Minimum and Maximum.

Once you do that, you should be able to follow these steps:

  1. Go to Pricing tab.
  2. Go to Fix Pricing Alerts.
  3. Click "Reactivate."

If Amazon flags the book for an error again, you may have to click "Reactivate" a couple times (sometimes 10 or more) before they leave you alone and reactivate.

Another trick

Drop the price dramatically to a level where Amazon will "accept" it, then slowly raise the price back up a small amount at a time, back to your desired price.

Seems weird, but this appears to trick the algorithm.

Another way to fix them (doesn't work as often, but can work)

If those don't work, try this:

  1. In the "Fix Price Alerts" page, select "Get Support."
  2. Select "Determine Why a Listing is not Displaying" option.
  3. Select "Contact Us," Phone option.

There are reports of seller support fixing/undo pricing errors on the phone in real time.

Have a LOT of high price errors?

We have a tool that automates the process of editing (and reediting) all your high pricing errors, applying "brute force" to fix high pricing errors.

Makes the most sense if you're dealing with dozens (or more). If that's you, check out PriceFix:
